Dubai has announced the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), set to become the world’s largest airport once complete. With a staggering investment of AED 128 billion, the project will significantly boost the aviation sector and reinforce Dubai’s position as a global hub for travel. Designed to be a city within a city, the airport will be at the heart of a new community featuring six clustered zones, including Dubai Logistics City, Commercial City, Residential City, Aviation City, and Golf City, interconnected with an extensive metro network and access to the Etihad Rail. The first phase will significantly enhance airport capacity to handle 150 million passengers annually, eventually reaching almost 260 million per year. Spanning 70 square kilometres (five times the size of Dubai International), DWC will feature five runways, four concourses, 400+ aircraft gates, and the latest smart technologies, including biometric security and automated AI-driven services.The airport will also emerge as a global logistics powerhouse, boasting a capacity to manage 12 million tonnes of cargo annually. With operations geared to gradually transition from Dubai International (DXB) to Al Maktoum by 2032, this ambitious development sets the stage for the next era of travel, trade, and innovation.
